The project process

The process we follow will combine planning and experience with enough flexibility to suit your needs. All projects have a clear goal, but also need room and time to grow and evolve. Most projects follow this general process:

intake

We will discuss the details of your project and agree on what you need. You will then receive an estimate. If you agree to the estimate and time frame, you will receive a standard contract along with an invoice for the deposit.

information gathering

The first step will be a round of information gathering. Projects are always an evolutionary process to some degree and we will chat throughout. It is very important that you have time to think about why you love what you do and what makes you different so I can assist you in communicating that to your patrons. Once I have a firm handle on the project I will get started on the creation part.

creation (design, mockup, concept, or draft)

Once I have a firm handle on the project, we begin the design phase. This means something different depending on the project, in general you will receive and idea, concept or draft of what your project will eventually look like and we will work together to make appropriate refinements.

development (build out, refinement or final version)

Once the design has been established, usually the final phase is development. For a website, this is when I get it coded up. For a logo, this is when I do the final tweaking and creation of the various files for delivery.

training

If your project includes a website powered by a content management system, I will likely budget a little bit of time to create some training videos for you. I have found this to be the best method of explaining things because you can come back to the videos more than once.

delivery

Once all services have been paid for in full, your project will be delivered. For websites, this might mean launching the site or delivering the files to you to launch yourself. For a logo, this would be transmission of the final files in various sizes to suit your needs, plus the source illustration file for your records. For print design, this might mean placing the order for you and having your stationary delivered to your front door.
