After completing the new logo and stationary for Flagship USA Inc., the next task was two websites to match. Before getting started, these rental properties had no identity to speak of. Flagship had two vacation rentals on the North Shore and two in the Twin Cities. It was important to tie these together for the purpose of cross pollination and trust with potential guests. The new websites and identity convey to the consumer the true background of Flagship USA Inc. which is an established real estate management company, and not just a person who owns one or two properties.

My job was to design a website that could be used for all the properties. We decided to launch two focused sites on sub-domains for Duluth and the Twin Cities. Also, all the properties were given unique names for memorability. In the past, they were Cabin #1 and Cabin #2, but are now Sandy Point and Stony Point. This effort has been rewarded through search engine results. People do remember and search for both those names and the name Flagship Rentals. Before, when the visible presence was “Lake Superior Vacation Home” there was less repeat traffic.

This project was done while sub-contracting for E.Webscapes Design Studio.

The writer of this blog, Lisa, is also owner of an interior design studio. She wanted a blog to post her thoughts on interior design and generate business. She is a fan of bold colors which where incorporated into her blog, but the design needed to be clean enough to feature all of her photos.

The idea for the dot cut-out style came from some of Lisa’s own artwork. I try to find inspiration from the client’s stories and style whenever I can.

The Enfranchised Mind blog has been on the web since 2006 and needed a face lift to feature classic posts and open source projects.

The Enfranchised Mind blog has been on the web since 2006 and boasts hundreds of posts, and thousands of comments. Blog owner, Robert wanted a face lift since the blog had been using the same free theme for years. In addition, he wanted to be able to feature old and popular posts and his open source projects. I designed the new blog theme to accommodate those needs and coded it up as a Thematic child theme which is a framework I really like for certain projects.

Designing this blog gave me the chance to use a little bit of CSS3 which was fun too. We decided it was best to keep the same ancient header image that the readers are familiar with, but everything else was freshened up.

The Spotted Cow Cream and Bean needed a new website. They wanted something simple to suit their budgetary needs and in a style that better incorporated their brand and image in their community. I used their existing logo and the colors of ice cream with a retro feeling to design a website to suit their goals and needs.

Spotted Cow asked me to code the design as a custom WordPress theme so they could manage their website themselves. I even coded the theme to easily allow them to change the featured flavor whenever they want.

The Hegerfeld Farm raises high quality, well priced beef. They needed an eCommerce Store to sell to a larger audience. I suggested they use Shopify which is a great platform. They hired Graphic Karma to develop a custom theme for the store. Our goal was to communicate a feeling of both down home country, but also high class beef. We used photos of the farm and family to embed their personality and instill trust.
