What Is “Secure HTTP”/”HTTPS”?

Security is an important issue on the internet. When you type something into your computer, it is usually sent across the wireless network and then the internet without any security. This means that anything you type into the internet (e.g. Google searches) is basically public, even if you are typing it into the internet from your own private computer.

For most websites, this relationship to their customers is fine. A local restaurant’s website, for instance, might just display information about the restaurant and maybe a menu. There is no reason this needs to be protected. If the website asks for private information from the user, though, and especially if the website has a concept of “logging in”, then some security is necessary.

What is a vector image and why do I need one for my logo?

Most images you see on the web are called raster images and they are based on pixels. A pixel is a little dot of color. Most printers also use dots to create images, however for the image to look clear a printer needs a lot more dots in every inch than a website does.

The number of dots or pixels in the image is called the resolution.

When a website is designed, web resolution images are created. If no logo is available, I will put the company’s name at the top of your website, there may even be a graphic with it, but that graphic can’t be used for other projects because blowing it up or reducing it’s size will greatly reduce the quality of the image. How to choose the best domain name for your business.

First and foremost your domain name should be memorable. Ideally it won’t be more than two words, maybe three if they’re short.

It is true that search engines look at the domain name for information about what is in your website. For example, www.MensShoes.com could be one piece of information that indicates to Google that you sell men’s shoes, however there are many things that go into website traffic and the domain name is just one.

For the long haul, it is much better to choose something very memorable and easy to spell, this is a big reason why Google.com, Amazon.com and Ebay.com have had lasting effects. Read More »
